This very rare hippopotamus sculpture will complete your interior decoration by bringing an artistic and majestic touch.

The hippopotamus, a sacred animal in Egypt, protector of women and children, symbolizes renewal and fertility, like the Nile, considered the primordial source of life. The hippopotamus is also associated with power, an attribute appreciated by the Pharaohs of the Middle Kingdom. The most prestigious Egyptological collections include emblematic hippopotamus statues of this type, such as that of William at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The sculpture shaped by the Artist Salah Sayed is made of steatite, a rock extracted from the Eastern Desert of Egypt, then shaped by hand using traditional methods. The meticulous work of the craftsman gives life and character to these emblematic creatures.

Once sculpted, the work is coated with a glaze composed of quartz and copper, using a technique inspired by ancient Egyptian earthenware, then fired to gain strength and obtain its bluish tint.
